[Abstract]

S-adenosylmethionine decarboylase SAMDC,the second rate-limiting enzyme required for polyamine synthesis, catalyze the decarboxylization of L-methionine to dcSAM,thus its propylamine moiety is denoted to form spermidine and spermine. Polyamines correlate with the tumorgenesis and maintain malignant phenotype of tumor cells.Colorectal cancer is the most common cancer in China, and its incidence increases every year and the patients tend to be younger. Because its mechanism is not clear, people have difficulty in early diagnosis. Frequently, it has been the advanced stage when the patients come to visit the doctor, and the mortality is high. Now the first-line therapy is radical surgery with adjuvant chemotherapy. But overall 5 year survival rate of this disease is around 40%. The combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy has certain therapeutic effects, which is not satisfactory enough. Therefore, it is important to find a novel non-surgical intervention for treating colorectal cancer. Previous studies have demonstrated the correlation between colorectal cancer and aberrant polyamine biosynthesis pathway. S-adenosylmethionine decarboylase (SAMDC), the rate-limiting enzyme in polyamine synthesis, has been approved to have a high level in breast cancer. However, there is no related report on the relationship between the SAMDC and colorectal cancer.This article revealed the SAMDC gene expression in colorectal cancer at mRNA and protein level, and observed the relationship between SAMDC gene expression
