LinkedIn is a search engine just like google. Just like google, it has it?s own algorithm for searches. It only takes a few simple changes to your LinkedIn profile for you to significantly increase the number of times your profile appears in the search results.
However, before you start you need to do two things:
1) fill in your profile. It?s no good appearing in the search results if the resulting profile is patchy and littered with typos.
2) Identify what keywords people use when they are searching for someone with your talents. For example are they looking for a property lawyer or a VAT specialist?
Now that you know this, you can now optimise your profile for these keywords.
LinkedIn places a higher weighting on keywords at the top of your profile, and also at the bottom of your profile. How about:
1) Adding keywords after your last name ? e.g. Employment lawyer
2) Adding keywords into your professional headline
3) Having a different role for each of the keywords that you want to feature highly for. E.g. Employment lawyer at xxx, labour law expert at xxx
4) Including the keywords near to the top of your summary
5) Having the keywords in your specialities
6) Adding in the keywords to your bit at the bottom of your profile about who or how you are happy to connect with.
Once you have decided on the keywords which you want to add in your profile, this is a 10 minute job to complete.
You may find the impact of doing this is a significant amount more activity around your profile. Take a look at ?should you connect with everyone on LinkedIn? ? if you are worried about what to do with all the additional connection requests which you will generate, from the increased profile you will generate.
