OUYA to Receive OnLive Support - Structure Gaming

For anyone interested in a limitation-free gaming experience, OUYA has probably already been a significant blip on your radar. OUYA is an upcoming video game console founded by the CEO of Boxer 8, Julie Uhrman. More importantly, OUYA is said to be the first ?hacker friendly? gaming console. The system is a small cube that is very unassuming on first notice, but OUYA has a shocking amount of potential.
OUYA uses the Android 4.0 operating system, and it is uses open-source software. Essentially, OUYA provides its users with its source code, thus easily allowing the modding of the console software. Furthermore, the system itself is very simple to open up, and it is made with the idea that users will want to add hardware to the device. Where consoles such as the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii are fairly static, the OUYA strives to allow players and developers a fully customizable console where nothing is illegal. It is an ambitious project indeed.

As the OUYA?s funding keeps rising beyond the expected stopping point (recently it hit $5,551,703), we are learning more and more about the initial features that the OUYA will launch with. One of those features is access to the biggest name in cloud gaming, OnLive. ?OnLive uses streaming technology to allow players to stream a game, much like we stream videos, onto a computer or tv without using memory. It also allows players to use outdated tech to play more modern games. This would give OUYA players access to over 270 games through the OnLive service, and if the system is built with OnLive in mind, it may give the notably buggy service a place to call home.

Bruce Grove, General Manager of OnLive, says of their addition to Ouya, ?When OnLive first heard about OUYA, we were excited to see console gaming becoming more available and open. Like OUYA, we came to gaming with a new vision for making top-quality gaming accessible to more people, and we continue to look for ways to expand on that vision.
OUYA is rethinking the console business, making waves by using standard technology to make gaming for your living room accessible, affordable and more innovative than ever. In OnLive?s case, we pioneered a groundbreaking, cloud-based system that instantly delivers games to any device on demand. We are pleased to announce that OnLive will be available on OUYA at launch, extending and building on our commitment to make the best games available to everyone, everywhere.?
On top of this announcement, Julie Uhrman also released a image of the prototype OUYA controller.

OUYA is certainly shaping up nicely. It promises an unsurpassed amount of customization, but features such as OnLive and backing by various developers promise not to leave your everyday gamer behind. The system is still in prototype, so there is probably a lot more to learn before its release in March. Yet, if the system can appeal to the modding community and implement the cloud-based gaming well, a tech still in its early stages, then this system will certainly find an audience. Better yet, it will only cost 99 dollars.
