Turkey is a very popular country with a fantastic hot climate and a mixture of beautiful scenery and large cities. Every year millions of people travel to Turkey either to spend their holiday there or to do some shopping or meet for business. Turkey also has a very good relationship with the west while many other countries surrounding Turkey have much less stable relationships.
Like many other countries though Turkey has a hidden problem of domestic violence in many of its households and a problem which because of being hidden is difficult to prevent and resolve. The other issue is though, that cases of domestic violence in Turkey are actually far more serious than in most western countries and happen much more frequently too. Domestic violence is very common in many parts of the Muslim world but because Turkey is such a prominent holiday destination cases in the country are receiving more attention.
One case involved a young woman who at 19 decided to marry the father of her child despite her parents not giving their approval. Unfortunately the husband abandoned her and she didn?t have anywhere to go other than back to the home of her parents. The girl?s parents had not forgiven her though and her family sat by and waited as her own brother killed her in a different room.
The fact that this case isn?t an isolated incident has created a lot of media attention for Turkey?s problem and people all around the world are now aware. There is a growing concern that the number of reported domestic violence cases has recently gone up by roughly 1400% which obviously suggest that the problem is only getting worse and significantly worse at that.

Some of the other cases reported have involved women being forced to commit suicide by male family members. Others have seen women killed in revenge attacks because they have decided to split from their partner.
