If you love to golf but live in the city, you may not have nearby golf courses to indulge your love of the game. This can be frustrating and it can make the hobby expensive, as you might need to drive several miles to the closest course or pay exorbitant greens fees at a country club. Instead of going through this, why not try urban golf or cross golf, which is actually played in city streets?

Urban golf is like regular golf in that you have a particular target or hole at which you are aiming, and a par or number of swings to get your ball there.? Like regular golf, you need to play around or through traps and hazards.? Unlike traditional golf, you do not play on a course but play on open streets.? This makes the game fun and challenging but also more accessible to those who live in the city.? Like children playing ball in the street when there is no park around, playing urban golf gives you a chance to engage in your favourite sport no matter where you live.
To play urban golf, it is typically best to find a league or organization that takes you through a guided tour of streets set aside for the game.? If you go out in the street and just starting hitting golf balls, you are liable to break windows or damage cars.? Urban golf leagues will typically use abandoned areas and wide open streets, with holes marked away from areas that may cause damage.? In many cases urban golf is also played with tennis balls rather than golf balls, as these will not travel as far and are not as dangerous if they hit cars or people.
As with traditional golf, players are expected to play a ball where it lands and need to play around hazards.? On a golf course these hazards may include water or trees, but for urban golf, they may include buildings, cars, trucks, bridges, and anything else you might expect in an urban landscape.? Players also must contend with the haphazard nature of urban golf, such as the risk of dogs getting loose in the area of play and actually running off with the ball!
Depending on the area of play and the league or team you might join, there may be other rules variations in urban golf, such as a higher par than on a standard course or being able to move your ball around certain objects.? No matter the variations, it is a fun sport and one that anyone can enjoy.? If you miss golf in the city, be sure you give urban golf a try.
