NEW YORK ? Now that Beyonce is pregnant, there are certain smells that turn her stomach.

"My nose, I smell everything from a mile away," Beyonce said during an interview with The Associated Press while wearing a long, flowing purple dress, her baby bump showing. "Usually it is food, it is onions or something that I just can't tolerate."

Her new fragrance is not one of them. On Wednesday, Beyonce was busy promoting Pulse, her third scent. For the creator of girl-power anthems like "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" and "Run the World (Girls)," Pulse represents another extension of that theme.

"I always meet strong, powerful women and they always have a signature scent," the 30-year-old said. "That is one of the first things I was so proud of. I thought about Diamonds and Elizabeth Taylor and all these icons, so I am so proud of this."

AP: How is this fragrance different from your others?

Beyonce: This is very fresh. This is all about citrus, but it also has vanilla in the back. It is important for me for a fragrance not to just smell like one thing. I think women are interesting and I don't like for you to be like, "Ok, this smells like this." I like for it to be something signature and something that brings out your inner beauty and your confidence and makes you feel like you leave a long-lasting impression on someone.

AP: Your recent fashion show in London (with mother Tina Knowles for House of Dereon) was about empowerment. This scent is about empowerment. Why is that important to you?

Beyonce: I just enjoy being a woman and especially right now, I just feel so empowered. I think that is sort of my place in the world, for people to see that you can be an entrepreneur. You can have goals and dreams and you can grow and be strong and have your strong opinions, and all of these things bring that out in you.

AP: Does pregnancy make you feel more empowered?

Beyonce: Absolutely. It is the most powerful creation for you to be able to have life growing inside of you. There is no bigger gift, nothing more empowering.

AP: You have the fragrance, the clothing line, a husband, career and a baby on the way. What is next on your bucket list?

Beyonce: Balance. I am still working on balance and still growing. I am starting my company, my label. I want to create a boy band. I want to continue to produce and do documentaries and music videos. I eventually want to start directing for other artists. Once I know that I have my stuff together and I trust that, I can do it for other artists. I see so many male artists building these empires and passing their knowledge on to other artists and development. I see myself doing the same thing and hopefully other younger artists when they grow up and they have been around for 15, 20 years, they can do the same thing.

AP: What advice have you gotten from your mother and sister on motherhood?

Beyonce: I have the best examples around me because my sister is the most incredible mother. My mother, I am so proud of her. I see her and I could cry every time I think about her because she is such an incredible woman, so I just pray that I have the same bond with my children, child.

AP: Will the baby go everywhere with you?

Beyonce: Yes, I will probably be that way. I am sure I will. I think that it shouldn't stop you. I think of course my life is going to change, and I definitely will make sacrifices, but you know, I think I will be able to bring hopefully my little rider with me.

AP: You are doing an appearance for the perfume where you will be with your fans. What does it mean to you to be able to interact with them like that?

Beyonce: I have the best fans. They are so passionate and so loyal. I want to give them everything. I always get excited when I do the meet-and-greets because I get to really shake hands and look people in the eye and really see the impact that I have been able to have in people's lives, because sometimes you don't really get to see it. When I get to meet people and they tell me their stories and I feel their spirits, it makes me feel like my job and all of the hard work is worth it.

AP: You are pregnant but work nonstop. How do you keep your energy up?

Beyonce: I think it is just passion. When you are excited about something, you don't have to think about your energy. It is natural and comes from adrenaline. It is important that I don't look at this as like an illness. I am not sick. I am the same woman and I have the same passions.

AP: What is your pregnancy style?

Beyonce: I think I have been trying to find things that of course are flattering to the silhouette. I think a woman's curves when she is pregnant are so beautiful. I don't want to get matronly, and I still find things that are sensual and feminine and funky. I have been mixing different textures and suit jackets and blazers. I don't want to be in the same dress every day.

Rob Gundling, the owner of O.C. Custom Wines in Anaheim, is also on the board of the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Orange County. (For those who don?t know, the foundation has been around since 1980 and enriches the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions by helping them realize a wish.)

Gundling has come up with a nifty idea to raise money for Orange County charities: a contest.

Starting today, customers are invited to come in to Gundling?s store, sample his wine and vote for their charity of choice. There are three charities participating: Make-A-Wish, Canyon Acres and Child Guidance.

The contest will continue Saturday and end Sunday. Cash donations will be presented to the charities based on voting from all three days. The top prize of $5000 will go to the charity with the most votes. $3000 will go to second place winner, and $2000 to third place.

Gundling is a serious wine-maker who has been sourcing grapes from Napa, Sonoma, and California?s north coast to make his own wine here in O.C. for the last few years. (One local TV station declared he owns the first new winery in Anaheim in 120 years.)

You can also make your own blend from the single-varietal barrels Gundling keeps on the premises. There?s no minimum ? you can rustle up only one bottle if you want ? and you even get to make your own label and cork it yourself. The price for home-made wine starts at $25 per bottle.

At O.C. Custom Wine, Gundling keeps his prices satisfyingly low: bottled wine-tastings are $5 for four selections and barreled wine-tastings are priced at $10 for six. There will also be specially-paired menu items to enjoy with the wine, as well as live acoustic music on Friday and Saturday night.

BRUSSELS (Reuters) ? EU regulators are still undecided whether Google dominates in Internet search and if it has abused rivals in breach of competition rules, the EU's antitrust chief said on Friday.

The European Commission opened an investigation into Google in November last year after rivals, including Microsoft, accused the company of abusing its dominant position in the market for web search services.

"As part of our current investigation, we are trying to determine whether the company holds a dominant position in Internet search," EU Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia told a competition conference in Florence.

"Google is the browser of choice for very many of us; but dominance is not the same as abuse of dominance. Abuse is a conduct that protects or extends dominance by illegitimate means, and we still have to conclude whether this is the case for Google," he said.

Google is the world's most popular search engine with more than 90 percent of the global market, according to Internet statistics firm StatCounter.

Its Chrome web browser had 22 percent of the global market in July, Microsoft's Internet Explorer had 42.5 percent while Mozilla's Firefox had 28 percent.

Google faces nine antitrust complaints filed with EU regulators, sources told Reuters last month, as rivals turned up the heat on the firm.

The Commission can fine companies up to 10 percent of their global turnover for violating EU rules. In recent years, it has hit Microsoft and Intel with billion-euro fines for abusing their dominant positions.

Even with a built-in optical drive, the ID47H02u is only an inch thick, and because it's technically a 13-inch frame, it's (4.4 lbs) significantly lighter than the Asus U46E-BAL5 (4.9 lbs), Samsung QX411-W01 (5.1 lbs), and HP Envy 14 (5.5 lbs).

The 14-inch screen itself isn't standout gorgeous, as its brightness levels and baseline 1,366 by 768 resolution are consistent with its peers. What makes it unique is that the bezel surrounding it is about the width of a twisty-tie and barely noticeable from afar. The all-screen and no-bezel look is clean and modern, which is something that more of its competitors should be looking into. The typing experience is usually a coin toss in this price range, but Gateway didn't disappoint here. The chiclet-style keys are raised to an ideal height so that it doesn't feel like your fingers are pounding on a hard surface. It's a softer typing experience than the MacBook Pro 13-inch. Gateway added a column of dedicated keys for volume control and launching its own social network (Facebook, Youtube, Flickr) widget, which, fortunately, didn't get in the way of typing. I'm a proponent of dedicated mouse buttons, like the ones found in the U46E-BAL5 and Sony VAIO VPC-EG16FM ($829.99 list, 4 stars). Hence, the ID47H02u's clickpad, with its integrated mouse buttons, is my least favorite part about this laptop. Although accidental cursor movements were kept to a minimum, the clickpad's unusual plastic surface is prone to drag friction, particularly if you have clammy hands.

Features
The feature set is almost as solid as that of the Asus U46E-BAL. It's equipped with a USB 3.0 port, which transfers data at 10 times the speed of USB 2.0. There are two USB 2.0 ports on the right side, giving the ID47H02u. Like every other mainstream laptop, it has HDMI andVGA video-out ports, Ethernet, and a multimedia card reader. The built-in DVD burner isn't as glamorous as the Blu-ray drive found in the Sony EG16FM, but you wouldn't expect that from a $700 laptop. You'll get a slightly bigger hard drive with the Asus U46E-BAL5 (640GB), but the ID47H02u's 500GB hard drive isn't too shabby for mediaphiles.

Performance
Gateway ID47H02u The ID47H02u matches the processing power of its rivals with a 2.3GHz Intel Core i5-2410M. There are some differences in memory configurations. For instance, the Asus U46E-BAL5 and Samsung QX411-W01 have 8GB and 6GB of DDR3 RAM, respectively; the ID47H02u uses 4GB. Otherwise, its Cinebench R11.5 (2.6) and Handbrake (1:55) scores were practically identical to that of the Asus U46E-BAL5 (2.59, 1:53) and Samsung QX411-W01 (2.56, 1:59). By the same token, its slightly inferior memory configuration (4GB versus 6GB to 8GB in the other two) didn't affect its Photoshop CS5 (4:09) performance, as it was as well accomplished as the Asus U46E-BAL5 (4:10) and Samsung QX411-W01 (4:10). The integrated graphics solution won't get you very far in terms of gaming, but it can handle many of them at medium quality settings. The Samsung QX411-W01 and HP Envy 14 are the better gaming laptops, because they house a discrete graphics chip.

Like the Samsung QX411-W01, the ID47H02u's 64WH battery is sealed in to maximize capacity and prevent any physical bulging. Meanwhile, the Asus U46E-BAL5 and Sony EG16FM have removable batteries, making them easier to replace should they wear down over time. The ID47H02u performed admirably in MobileMark 2007, lasting 8 hours 23 minutes. It outlasted the Asus U46E-BAL (7:19) by about an hour, while falling in between the Samsung QX411-W01 (8:48) and Sony EG16FM (8:12).

Differentiating a mainstream laptop from the rest of the crop is no easy task, but the Gateway ID47H02u found a cubbyhole. It squeezed a 14-inch screen into a 13-inch frame by using very little bezel, which its rivals have yet to attempt. It's also a well-designed laptop and is both powerful and battery efficient. It's not the best deal in this class, though. That distinction belongs to the Asus U46E-BAL5?our Editor's Choice in the mainstream category.

NEW YORK ? Stung by concerns that using Google is bad for the planet, the Internet search giant has revealed exactly how much electricity the company uses and how much greenhouse gases it produces in an effort to show its business model is environmentally friendly.

Experts say it's true: Watching a video on Google's Youtube site is indeed more energy-efficient than watching a DVD that had to be manufactured, packaged, shipped and purchased.

Talking about sustainability is a popular marketing tool, but Google has made renewable energy and environmental protection part of both its corporate identity and its operations in a way that is unique in corporate America. Google's philanthropic arm funds projects aiming to make renewable energy cheaper than coal power. The company purchases large blocks of renewable energy directly from power generators. Google has invested nearly $1 billion in renewable energy projects, including wind farms in North Dakota, California, and Oregon, solar projects in California and Germany, and the beginnings of a transmission system off the East Coast meant to foster the construction of offshore wind farms.

The environment has long been a major concern for co-founder and CEO Larry Page and, since 2007, the company has been paying for projects that remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere to completely offset its own emissions.

Google's environmental focus made a 2009 article in the British newspaper The Sunday Times claiming Google searches generated large amounts of greenhouse gases particularly painful for the company. The article, which caused a stir in the environmental community, said a single Google search generates the same amount of carbon as boiling a kettle of water for tea.

Google defended itself vigorously, and the paper later accepted Google's contention that most Google searches produce 35 times less carbon than the report suggested. Still, the report, along with concerns that power use by big data centers that Google and others rely on was growing rapidly, prompted Google to conduct detailed studies of the company's efficiency, power use, and greenhouse gas emissions.

In a blog post made public Thursday, Google revealed an unprecedented amount of data about the environmental footprint of its own operations.

"They are concerned, and rightly so, that people think they are bigger (electricity users) than they actually are," says Noah Horowitz, a Senior Scientist at the Natural Resources Defense Council who studies efficiency.

Google says it used 2.3 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity last year, about the same as what 207,000 U.S. homes would use in a year or the power consumption of about 41 Empire State Buildings, according to Edison Electric Institute, a utility industry trade group.

Google uses about half the power of the biggest power consumers such as oil companies, automakers and steel companies. But that level of consumption does make them a major industrial user, along the lines of a big chemical company, according John Hughes, the Vice President for Technical Affairs for the Electricity Consumers Resource Council, a trade group that represents large industrial electric power consumers.

Rick Needham, Director of Green Business Operations at Google said in an interview that Google will continue to release this data periodically so the company's progress can be publically tracked. "It holds our own feet to the fire," he said.

To reduce the impact of all its power use on the environment, Google is buying renewable power, investing in renewable energy projects to help make it more available, making its data centers more efficient and paying for projects that remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, known as carbon offsets.

Also, Google is trying to prove that its business model is far greener than the alternative. Even if data centers use lots of power, using them to run a search on, say, the legend of Atlantis, uses far less energy than driving to a library and looking through an encyclopedia for the information.

Google, Microsoft and others in the information technology industry are pushing business customers to shift to centralized data centers packed with thousands of computers to store and process data and run software.

Using this model, called cloud computing, is far more efficient and cheaper for companies than running their own servers, email programs and other software in in-house information technology departments, according to Jonathan Koomey a consulting Professor at Stanford University who studies data center efficiency.

Google says an email system run on in-house servers consumes about 75 times more power than Google's Gmail email service.

Other companies that rely on cloud computing, such as the business software company Salesforce.com, have also conducted studies that show cloud computing is more efficient.

The reason is that data centers make better use of their equipment. An in-house data center in the back room of a company headquarters requires its own power systems and cooling systems to run computers that are doing far less than they could be. A data center can process information from around the world at all hours with one heating and cooling system.

Still, Data centers use 10 times to 20 times more energy per square foot than a typical commercial building, according to the Electric Power Research Institute. And while data center power use is growing slower than efficiency experts had feared it would in the early part of the last decade, it is still growing fast.

It now accounts for roughly 2 percent of the nation's annual electricity consumption. Fifteen years ago, it was not a factor.

And for every kilowatt-hour used for computing in a typical data center, nearly a whole additional kilowatt-hour is used for running cooling and heating systems.

"Not all clouds are created equally," says Horowitz. "Some data centers are more efficient than others, and it matters what kind of power they use."

Google says its data centers are about twice as efficient as typical data centers as measured by a score it publically reveals each quarter that measures how much power is used directly for computing compared with power used for heating and cooling.

Google says more efficient data centers are a major cost savings for the company because it has to buy less power. Google won't say how much money it saved, but it says its data centers use about half the power as a typical data center. Using the national average retail power price for industrial customers, that would make for an annual savings of $130 million. That figure does not take into account the extra expense, if any, of designing more efficient data centers.

Facebook and Yahoo have both revealed in recent months that they have built new data centers that are among the most efficient ever built, though not all of their data centers meet that standard.

Horowitz hopes Google's disclosure prompts other big data center operators such as Apple, Amazon.com and the U.S. Government to also reveal data center efficiency and work to improve it.

What to Drink Now: Out of the Ordinary Italian with a Taste of Sassicaia

Italians are known for great art, high fashion, comforting food and incredible wine. There is a new artisan Prosecco out called Voveti from created by the Ferrer family of Spain, best known for their Spanish Cavas, and the Collavini family of Italy. ?Both family run wineries teamed together to create a sparkler that is sophisticated and with great finess, focusing on the freshness and vibrancy great Prosecco is known for. ? Crafted with entertaining in mind, this is an ideal apperitif filled with golden apple, ripe peach and honeydew with a creamy texture and frothy mousse, and of course, lots of tiny bubbles. ?

2010 Tomaresca Roycello Fiano, from the Antinori family, is a white wine produced in the Salento region of Puglia, or the boot of Italy. ?Made from 100% Fiano, an aromatic, floral white grape that was once called Vitis Apiana because the grapes were so sweet they attracted bees (?api? in Italian.) ?This is not a sweet wine though. ?The straw colored wine is filled with wild flowers, honeysuckle and fresh fruit aromas with flavors of white peaches, white nectarines and green apple on the palate with balanced acidity.

Also from the Antinori family is the 2008 Il Bruciato Bolgheri DOC, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah with a touch of Italian varieties to keep its roots in check, this is not your typical blend. ?From the Bolgheri Estate which stretches from the Tyrrhenian Sea inland for 2500 acres, it has a low alcohol percentage (13.5%) and is crafted from grapes not typically featured in Italian wine production, especially outside of Tuscany. ?Soft and elegant with red fruit, licorice, and baking spices with subtle, silky tannins and a long finish.

From the Umbria region comes an incredible blend of Sangiovese and Canaiolo, 2005 Rubesco Riserva Vigna Monticchio from Lungarotti. ?Produced only in the best vintages, this DOCG wine is barrique aged for 12 months, then bottled aged for 40 months, released about 4-5 years after its initial harvest, well beyond the 3 year requirement for DOCG appellations. ? Though it will continue to get better with a little age, as it has known to have a life-span of up to 30 years when properly held, today it is a bold wine with great intensity and complexity, filled with black cherry, black plum and mocha with slight minerality. ?Decanting will help open up the flavors and roundness, creating a great food wine, especially paired with roasted meats.

Sassicaia, ?a place of many stones? in Italian, is known throughout the world as uncompromising, high quality Italian wine. ?Created by Tentua San Guido on the outskirts of Tuscany, this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc is barrique aged for 18-24 months, depending on the year, after the grapes have been hand picked, destemmed, crushed and fermented using only natural yeasts. ?The flavors are not the norm you find in many Cabernet blends, with a somewhat heartier profile, filled with blackberry, black cherry, smoke and leather with just a hint of the tobacco and floral characteristics that are often associated with Cabernet Franc. ?This is a special wine.
