There are going to be up sides to getting into the electricity business and some down sides also; some of the pros to the electricity business will have to be that someone will continuously learn about the new skills which are needed while carrying out their job. So many people think that once they are qualified that is it but things are going to change and that will mean new practices are going to be required to understand how to do the job right. This might be a down side for many but actually it is great because people can continue to learn about new skills that they can pass onto their fellow colleagues or younger colleagues who don't know much.

This is always going to be an upside because it is so important to learn new skills; and what is more, by every job that is completed, it is going to mean that someone can get more experience in the trade. It is true, they are getting more experience for their work and more opportunities can become available to them to work with which has to be amazing because with more opportunities, whoever knows where it could lead. They could own their own successful business which is always going to be a massive dream for most people today. What someone has to also remember is that they are not just going to be working as an electrician and working with electricity, there will also be some administration duties that needs to be completed also but that does not need to be dull or boring.

It can be actually quite fun to do some administrative duties also. Remember, when being an electrician, it is not just going to be piled on to one person, the work is going to be full on but that can be shared with an entire team and that does not mean that just one person will be snowed under with a lot of work. Tasks can be shared and responsibilities can be for the entire team to handle which is always going to be great so that it is truly a peaceful workplace, one which everyone can take some responsibility for their own area. There will be some downsides to becoming an electrician, it could be dangerous. This is going to be something which has to be thought about because every job carry's a risk.

An international group of researchers, including those from Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Fla., have published a paper in the March 14 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine reviewing the results of a study that analyzed mutations in 18 genes of 398 patients who had acute myeloid leukemia (AML). They found that several mutated genes predicted improved outcomes when patients with certain gene mutations were given high-dose induction chemotherapy. Their findings suggest that mutational profiling could potentially be used for both risk stratification and also in helping health care providers make therapeutic decisions for some AML patients.

"Previous studies have found that AML is a highly heterogenic disorder," said study co-author Hugo F. Fernandez, a senior member at Moffitt and associate chief of Moffitt's Blood and Marrow Transplantation Division. "Moreover, recent studies have revealed that a number of genetic mutations in AML patients might have prognostic value. The question of the presence of these gene mutations altering outcomes based on current therapy had not been answered to date."

Their paper cites a clinical trial carried out by the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) in which dose-intensified chemotherapy improved outcomes in two age sets of AML patients. Based on these findings, the research team hypothesized that carrying out mutational analysis of all known molecular alterations occurring in more than 5 percent of patients with AML might allow for the identification of distinct, molecularly defined subgroups of patients who might benefit from dose-intensified chemotherapy.

The laboratory research team subsequently performed a mutational analysis on diagnostic samples from 398 patients enrolled in the ECOG clinical trial they cited and used patients' frozen sample cells for extraction and profiling. The researchers validated the results of this latter group of 104 patients.

"We found that intensification of the dose of anthracycline significantly improved outcomes and overall survival in patients with mutations in DNMT3A, NPM1 or MLL translocations," said Fernandez. "This finding suggests that mutational profiling could be used to determine which AML patients will benefit from dose-intensive induction therapy."

"Most importantly," said Fernandez, "this study demonstrates how integrated mutational profiling of samples from a clinical trial cohort can advance understanding of the biologic characteristics of AML."

Health and fitness update

As long-time readers know, I decided to change my diet and fitness regimen six months ago. A lot of factors encouraged me to do this but I would single out reading Younger Next Year at the suggestion of a friend, along with the De Vany podcast and his book, The New Evolution Diet. On the diet side, I stopped eating potatoes, rice, pasta, bread, sweets, and desserts. I eat mostly protein, non-carb vegetables, and a reasonable amount of fruit. I snack on nuts. On Friday night and Saturday day, in honor of the Jewish Sabbath, I have some bread and dessert.

On the exercise side, I went from no exercise, to working out six days a week. The six days are three days of cardio and three days of weight-lifting. I began the cardio on a stationary bike, typically riding 45 minutes with every 5th minute consisting of an intense spring. On the weight days, I did 2 minutes of warm-up on the bike, then 6 minutes of Tabata high intensity interval training?20 seconds of all-out sprinting then 10 seconds of rest?12 cycles all together.

For the weight training, I do leg curls, leg extensions, leg press, chest press, cable row, barbell row, lat raises, curls, ab crunches. The weight that I?m able to do comfortably has increased dramatically. I had never lifted weights before.

Over the last two weeks, I?ve changed my cardio routine, hoping to run a 10K at the end of April. I realized somewhere along the way that riding a stationary bike and getting my heart rate up to 130 or even 140 in the sprints doesn?t really get you in shape. It works your heart. But when I tried to run two miles, I realized how far I had to go. It took me about 28 minutes. That?s not really running. After two weeks I?m down to 22 minutes but it?s still very hard. I?m hoping to start 3 miles next week. I last ran a 10K in the early 1980s. I think my time was around 54 minutes. Hoping for 66 minutes or less this time. I can see my 28 year-old self at the finish line, already cooled off asking me what took me so long. I?ll tell him he may be faster than I am but he has so much to learn?

In the first two months or so, I lost 20 lbs. That has stayed pretty steady. I?ve been as low as down 22. Right now I?m down 18. Wouldn?t mind losing another ten pounds but they seem a little stubborn. Maybe I?d have to give up my weekend treats or eat fewer nuts or citrus, which I eat a lot of and oranges and grapefruits have lots of sugar.

More importantly, I?m not starving at meal time. I?m never really hungry. My energy level is high throughout the day. My clothes feel better on me. The best thing is that I?m taller. Really. I stand straighter since I started exercising and lifting.

I had a physical two months into the process. Biggest change was that my triglycerides were way down.
